10 More Behind The Scenes Reasons For MCU Characters' Quirks

9. Thor's Gloves

It’s very rare that a character in the MCU will have any two appearances without at least some change to their costume or aesthetic. Iron Man evolved from the clunky Mk I up to fancy nanotech, as did Spider-Man, while Sam Wilson gained vibranium wings and a new red, white, and blue colour scheme.

This happens with characters across the board. Thor underwent a bigger transformation than most however between Infinity War and Endgame. In the aftermath of losing to Thanos, the God of Thunder spiralled into a pit of depression and alcoholism, and came back to the Avengers with a very different physique.

Tony Stark called him Lebowski, thanks to the stoner appearance made up of the shaggy hair and beard, sunglasses, cardigan, sweat pants, and dirty shirt. One of the most important aspects to Thor’s new look however, at least from a behind the scenes aspect, were the gloves.

The fingerless gloves were a choice from Thor that added to the overall homeless look, but their real purpose was simply to hide the seams of Chris Hemsworth’s fat suit. Though this could have easily been taken care of in post-production, this was a fun, more practical solution to hide the magic of the suit.
