One of the most surprising features of recent times, 2022's Puss in Boots: The Last Wish not only brought with it the return of Antonio Banderas' loveable feline, but also a properly menacing villain capable of sending many a shiver up your spine.

During the early part of this gorgeously animated sequel, it's revealed after the titular hero defeats a giant before being splatted by a bell that he had now lost eight of his nine lives.

Not long after this, the ginger swashbuckler is introduced to an unsettling bounty hunter in a bar. But this is no ordinary big bad wolf, this was actually none other than Death himself.

And if that wasn't already creepy enough, this force of darkness also revealed that he had actually been present each and every time Puss had carelessly thrown away one of his lives - and he was not impressed by his antics, now wanting to take Puss' final life himself.

A rewatch of the Academy Award-nominated feature reveals that he wasn't lying either.

When scanning the background about seven minutes into the action, you can just about spot a familiar hooded wolf watching Puss battle against the giant, confirming that this dude had indeed been disturbingly keeping an eye on the cat in the moments leading up to his many deaths.
