With so many new comic book movies being churned out by studios each and every year at this point, the opportunity to boldly head down a more mature and sometimes disturbing path, when telling a superhero story in particular, is more prevalent than ever before.

There will always be a place for the more family-friendly, heart-warming flicks regularly seen being added to the likes of the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe. But even the folks crafting the big-screen worlds of 'Gods of Thunder' and 'Mad Titans' have been willing to take a few more disturbing and often shocking chances in recent times.

In the case of the following comic book film moments, though, the various filmmakers involved likely sensed they'd perhaps gone a little too far or that the creepy occurrence in question simply didn't mesh well with the rest of the movie they'd forged.

And in the end, each and every one of these unsettling super-scenes were all dropped from the finished picture.

So, from a particularly chilling conversation between 'The Clown Prince of Crime' and his favourite playmate, to a death so "sickening" it would have turned its film into an NC-17-rated one, these are those alarming comic book movie moments that never made it into cinemas.

10. The High Evolutionary Puts His Face Back Together In Jail - Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

After having his ass royally whooped by the Guardians of the Galaxy, the despicable High Evolutionary eventually had his prosthetic mask pulled from his face to reveal the horrific injuries inflicted on him by Rocket all those years ago.

And while Drax the Destroyer is just about shown carrying Vol. 3's big bad off Arête as the clan save those who were imprisoned within the lab, it wasn't made clear during the film itself exactly what happened to this creepy geneticist.

Well, according to director James Gunn (via Threads), one of the film's rather uncomfortable deleted scenes contains those canon answers.

Once the gang are all safely back on Knowhere, a cut moment from the film reveals the High Evolutionary being locked away in a prison cell by Rocket. In the seconds before the antagonist is sealed within the laser cell, this creator of life can be seen disturbingly attempting to press his aforementioned prosthetic mask back onto his beaten face.

It's a short sequence. But it's one that both confirms exactly what happened to the legendary raccoon's creator and leaves you ever so slightly wincing in your seat at the visual of that flappy fake skin being reattached to his ripped-apart mug.
