10 More Excuses Actors Used For Blowing Major Movie Auditions
3. Matthew Rhys Blew His James Bond Audition With A Terrible Joke
Another star who blamed their failure to win a huge role on their foolish attempts to make the folks making the all-important decision laugh, Matthew Rhys' James Bond audition was already quite "terrifying" before he tried to crack a silly one-liner.
As the star would tell The Times, he'd been asked to don a dark suit and read the script for the then-incoming Casino Royale flick before Daniel Craig was eventually cast as 007. And it was during that meeting in the "intimidating" Broccoli family's office when The Americans actor was asked what he'd personally do differently with the Bond franchise.
Immediately wondering whether what he'd just been asked was actually a trick question, Rhys instead refrained from giving a straight answer and joked that he'd like to give the iconic agent a limp.
Similarly to Jamie Campbell Bower earlier, those inside the room went hilariously silent.
But instead of trying to salvage the situation with an honest answer, Rhys decided to then double down on the joke, following up with the suggestion of "eye patch?"
The casting team clearly weren't impressed by this potential 007's quips on the day, and opted not to hand this nervous joker a license to kill.
