10 MORE Great Horror Movies (Nobody Ever Talks About)

2. Run

American Mary
Lionsgate

Run opens with a mother called Diane (Sarah Paulson) in hospital after her newborn is diagnosed with a series of severe physical ailments. We then cut to 17 years where Diane's wheelchair-bound daughter, Chloe, is doing all she can to live her life, despite her illnesses.

Despite the fact Chloe has been accepted to various colleges, Diane won't let her leave. Although Chloe feels like a prisoner in her house, she believes her mother is just being overprotective. But over time, Chloe suspects her mother is keeping something from her.

When Run premiered on Hulu back in 2020, it instantly became the most watched original film on the streaming platform. Sadly, it seemed the whole world forgot about it, almost overnight. This is bizarre, considering Run is among the most heart-gripping psychological dramas in recent years.

Also, this might be Sarah Paulson's best work to date (which is saying a lot). Paulson puts so much effort in making her character understanding and sympathetic, you can momentarily forget what a monster she is.

Even if horror isn't your cup of tea, Run is still worth watching, since the big twist delves into a bizarre condition that few people are familiar with. Anyone who hasn't heard of this concept will find Run fascinating (and utterly terrifying).
