9. The Third Man
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oEsWi88Qv0 The Third Man is a criminally under-seen Carol Reed film starring the enduring legends that are Joseph Cotten and Orson Welles. This movie showcases incredible acting, one of cinema's great Machiavellian capitalist villains, and an iconic ending shot replicated by other great films including Taxi Driver, The Long Goodbye and more recently Skyfall. The Third Man Theme, or The Harry Lime Theme, was performed on the zither by Anton Karas. Karas, a Viennese musician, was serendipitously discovered by director Carol Reed while on location for the film. The theme by Karas ended up launching him to semi-stardom, becoming the world's most famous zitherer.
