10 More Horror Movie Characters You Trusted (But Shouldn't Have)

3. Olivia Barron - Truth Or Dare

The Faculty Marybeth
Blumhouse

Unlike the other characters on this list, it wouldn't really be fair to call Truth or Dare's Olivia Barron (Lucy Hale) a villain, even if the ending certainly paints her in a decidedly less sympathetic light.

Olivia is the movie's protagonist who finds herself caught up in a deadly, cursed game of Truth or Dare, where any player who breaks the rules - that is, lies or refuses to do a dare - ends up dead.

At the start of the picture, Olivia is presented as a highly affable and selfless person with a passionate desire to help others, but this innate goodness is thoroughly eroded by film's end when her life is put on the line.

Olivia and her best pal Markie (Violett Beane) eventually come face to face with the demon instigating the game, who informs them that there's no way for them to survive without adding participants to the mix. And so, Olivia decides to upload a YouTube video explaining the game, in turn forcing anyone who watches the video to join the game while staving off her and Markie's demise for the foreseeable future.

It's an especially galling choice on Olivia's part given that she literally states earlier in the film that she'd sacrifice herself in order to save the human race. And yet, when put on the spot, that clearly wasn't the case.
