Going into Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, horror hounds were obviously expecting to see Jason Voorhees up to Jason Voorhees things.

After all, this was a Friday the 13th movie, and so one would rightly be anticipating seeing Crystal Lake's hockey mask-adorned killer cracking skulls and piling up bodies. Instead, Jason underwent somewhat of a transformation during this ninth F13 film's opening scene; a transformation absolutely nobody saw coming.

That transformation? Why, that would see Jason blown to a million pieces in the opening few minutes, and instead The Final Friday focused on Voorhees' spirit being passed from person-to-person by a turd-like parasite.

There was zero reason whatsoever to expect a Friday the 13th movie that featured only a sparse few minutes of Voorhees' physical presence, or one that would see Jason transformed into a spirit that would possess other individuals.

The marketing material for Jason Goes to Hell featured no implication that the film would play out how it played out, and the form of Jason Voorhees was front 'n' centre in that promotional push. Even the theatrical trailers were completely oblivious to the fact that this wasn't your usual Friday the 13th movie.

Horror has many faces, death wears many masks, but pure evil wears only one, and this is your final chance to see it.

The above was the voiceover track from Jason Goes to Hell trailers, which accompanied imagery of Jason's famed mask and of Voorhees doing his usual business in his usual physical form.
