10 More Horror Movies Where The Villain Survives
9. La Tenia - Irréversible (2002)
Gaspar Noe's Irréversible is about as devastating as the horror genre can get, thanks to its detestable antagonist, La Tenia. But the real salt in the wound is that he gets no punishment for his vile actions.
Irréversible is a revenge thriller that plays in reverse chronological order. Essentially, it opens with the act of revenge and then concludes with the motive behind it. The film throws you right in at the deep end as the opening half-hour shows someone getting their face caved in by a fire exitinguisher as an onlooker watches and smiles.
As the flick plays out, you safely assume said fellow with the smashed-face was the villainous La Tenia. However, it's revealed near the end of the film (technically the beginning of the story) that he was not and that the man grinning from ear to ear was the target of this revenge quest all along.
He got away with everything and even smiled as he watched someone pay for his sins. Oh, how blood-boiling it is.
