10 More Important Movie Characters Who Were Killed Off Screen
6. Mark - Midsommar
As the follow-up to Ari Aster's unsettling directorial debut in Hereditary, Midsommar lived up to every creepy and disconcerting expectation. Of the group of Americans who travelled to Sweden to take part in the midsummer festivities of their friend's village, only Florence Pugh's Dani was still breathing by the time the credits rolled.
There were some shocking death scenes throughout Midsommar, from suicidal sacrifices to Dani choosing for her own boyfriend to be killed by the cult, but arguably one of the creepiest was the one that wasn't seen.
Unaware of the depth and intricacies of the sacred grounds in which they were staying, Mark (Will Poulter) urinated on the tree where the hosts stored the ashes of their ancestors. Though accidental, this was something deemed punishable by death. Mark was led off to be "shown something", and wasn't seen alive on screen again.
Exactly how it was revealed that he had been killed came when one of the cultists killed Mark's friend Josh (William Jackson Harper) while wearing not only Mark's clothes, but his flayed face as some kind of a sick mask. The shock of this scene is almost worse than having to watch the murder itself.
