10 MORE Incredibly Clever Moments Of MCU Movie Foreshadowing

9. Black Widow's "Red In Her Ledger" - The Avengers

Black Widow always had understandable struggles with accepting her rightful place among the Avengers. Sure, it can be easy to feel you really belong when you’re a mere mortal among genetically engineered super soldiers, genius billionaire playboy philanthropists, and the literal Hulk, but there’s more to her disquiet than say, not feeling equal to a literal Norse deity.

Black Widow has a history, and her struggle to align her dark past with her redemptive time in the team makes sense. Consider this comment from their first appearance together onscreen in 2012’s The Avengers: "I've been compromised. I've got red on my ledger. Now I need to wipe it out."

Black Widow struggles to do so throughout the series, trying to follow through on this promise by keeping the team together and offering up as many selfless sacrifices as any other member. But it’s not until Endgame, fittingly enough, that she can say her debt is paid up in full, and with her heroic self-sacrifice on Vormir securing the Soul Stone and thus the eventual survival of mankind, Black Widow can say for sure she has erased the red from her ledger.

Much more impressive achievement than erasing half of all life with a snap—well in moral terms, at least.
