10 More Movie Scenes More Real Than You Think

5. Tom Cruise Wasn't Supposed To Fall On That Chair - Collateral

It doesn't matter if you're a comedy sensation being wheeled into an ambulance or one of the biggest action stars on the planet, accidental trips and tumbles are simply a part of life... and the filming process.

And much like Ben Stiller's There's Something About Mary sudden drop was kept in the finished movie due to being too damn funny to lose, Michael Mann also decided that Tom Cruise's entirely unintentional stumble in Collateral perfectly fit the film he was making.

Said fall goes down as Cruise's hitman Vincent begins to chase after Jamie Foxx's Max and Jada Pinkett Smith's Annie in the latter's office building, with the actor launching a chair through a window before accidentally stepping on it and completely wiping out mid-pursuit.

That pretty scary slip may not have been planned out in advance, but the director would reveal in the film's commentary (via Film School Rejects) that he still absolutely loved the accidental trip.

Cruise is obviously known for throwing himself into his fair share of meticulously rehearsed stunts in order to excite the masses. But on this occasion, what you were watching was actually an entirely real mishap that simply made an already frantic chase feel a touch more truthful.
