5. Escape Room 2

While Escape Room had an impressive concept behind it and looked like it would naturally appeal to fans of Saw and older fans of the notorious Cube, it was very much a case of a great idea with flawed execution. But, thanks to a rise in public interest in escape rooms and the strength of the idea, the film still managed to be very lucrative for Sony, immediately justifying the decision to include a monumental sequel hook in the finale.

What we're looking at here is a Saw-like situation where the victims are faced with a mysterious villain pulling strings behind-the-scenes, killing off innocent victims for the entertainment of wealthy benefactors who like to gamble on who would die. It's like a Hunger Games/Saw/Final Destination mash-up and you can bet your bottom dollar that Sony are aiming for similar franchise longevity to those titles.

The sequel, which is set for August, 2020 we'll see the Puzzle Maker pulling the first film's survivors - plus more innocent players - into even more devilish games as the stakes get higher and the licence to be more gruesome greater.
