10 More Movie Special Effects Nobody Believed

Though Mad Max: Fury Road was widely lauded for the practical nature of its jaw-dropping action sequences, the film also contains far more CGI than many viewers seem aware of.

VFX were used extensively to augment the practical action and often stitch elements together which would simply be too dangerous to shoot at the same time.

And of all the things in the film that absolutely looked like some visual effects magic, there's that unforgettable fire-spewing guitar wielded by The Doof Warrior (iOTA) as part of villain Immortan Joe's (Hugh Keays-Byrne) vehicular convoy.

There didn't really seem to be much upside to adding real fire into an already massively logistically complex shoot, and so it was incredibly easy to believe that the flames were added in post, because as VFX enhancements go, it would've been immensely easy to do.

But shortly after Fury Road's release, it was revealed that no, the guitar was really built to shoot fire, and all the flames you see coming from it were captured for real.

The complexity of building a guitar capable of spewing fire resulted in the contraption weighing in at a hefty 132 pounds, requiring it to be secured to the rest of the war rig with bungee cords.
