10 More Movies So Awful They Were Pulled From Cinemas
3. Revolution
A movie that stars Al Pacino as a man forced to take part in the Revolutionary War after his son is kidnapped by British forces is a premise which, on paper, seemingly couldn't fail. It wouldn't be on this list if that was true, of course, and the movie ended up tanking, primarily because production was rushed to secure a December release date in order to be eligible for the next awards season (boy, were they hopeful on that front).
The end result was so bad, in fact, that it forced Al Pacino to go on an extended break from acting, taking a four-year hiatus and only returning in 1989's Sea of Love. It initially only opened in 4 theatres while the studio assessed the damage of the scathing reviews, releasing the film in more cinemas the following week but deciding to can distribution entirely after 16 days on the market.
In a way, Revolution ended up being a lot like Heaven's Gate, an ambitious historical drama that was far too expensive and far too niche to ever be a success. Unlike that movie though, Revolution never received any retroactive praise, and has only gotten worse with time.
