10 MORE Ridiculous Horror Movie Villains That Shouldn’t Have Worked… But Did

9. Giggling Doctor - Dr Giggles (1992)

Dr Giggles
Warner Home Video

As the title points out, Manny Coto's Dr Giggles takes itself anything but serious. The movie focuses on the son of a town doctor who massacred patients in an effort to find a replacement heart for his wife, and who (the doctor) was lynched when the families of his ex-patients found out.

Some three and a half decades after his father's death, Evan Rendell Jr (Larry Drake) escapes from a psychiatric facility with the intention of stepping into the doc's well-shined shoes. He returns to his hometown, compiles a list of names to track down, and begins to take revenge on the other families responsible for the loss of his.

In full doctor getup (white coat, surgical gown and even a homely bowtie), and armed with the tools of the trade - scalpels, syringes, bone cutters, nasal probes - the newly anointed Dr Giggles has just one major flaw: his laugh. But while his trademark maniacal giggle could have sunk the film, it instead injects the right dose of comedy into proceedings. Paired with the doctor's constant flow of puns and one-liners, this makes the character work and gives his film a wacky, so-bad-its-good flavour.
