10 More Terrifying Vacation Horror Movies

4. Wolf Creek

The evil dead ii 2
Roadshow entertainment

In a similar vein to multiple other movies in this list, Wolf Creek seems like an exercise in mundanity on paper, or perhaps simply just uninspired. Watching the film in its entirety, however, is a completely harrowing experience unlike many others, ultimately leaving your fingers without nails, if not your mentality devoid of sanity.

When venturing through the vacuous, unsuspecting wilderness of the Australian outback, a group of stereotypical, ideologically airheaded teens encounters a local man. Now, in any other genre of film, this would likely be a segment that has little to no impact on the plot. In this macabre tale, though, it's only their primary meeting with the devil himself, metaphorically speaking, of course.

Only because this humanistic incarnation would have the actual devil quivering with fear, that is.

What ensues is nothing but bereavement for nearly all involved. The stomach-churning amusement hits an all-new level of disturbing malevolence, as the hunter from down under excessively brutalises, mutilates, and cultivates these candescent lambs to the slaughter with all the reprehensible glee of a megalomaniac watching his favourite snuff film. Sequentially dismembering, disemboweling and disgustingly butchering these kids in a masochistic frenzy that shows no signs of quelling, nor any regard for human life.
