10 More Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed

9. Toy Story 5

Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Pixar

Back when a fourth Toy Story was first announced, many fans were extremely unhappy about the idea, considering that Toy Story 3 delivered about as perfect a conclusion to the franchise as one could imagine.

Toy Story 4 nevertheless turned out well, serving as an effective - if unnecessary - post-script to Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz's (Tim Allen) story, and one where most fans seemed to acknowledge that Pixar basically got away with milking the cash cow one last time.

But in early 2023, Disney announced that a fifth film was in development, no matter that Woody and Buzz have now been given two pretty decisive and satisfying endings.

Again, many balked at the announcement, because while the series' batting average is impeccable, and it's highly unlikely Toy Story 5 will be awful, it's clearly a move made to stem Disney's string of animated flops in recent years, rather than because someone had a great idea for a sequel. Yet when you factor in that Toy Story spin-off Lightyear was an unexpected box office flop, it's provided proof that this brand - even in unexpected, left-field form - isn't totally bulletproof with audiences.

Don't be shocked if Toy Story 5 massively underperforms at the box office compared to its predecessors and does "just OK" numbers, which for Disney will surely be a nightmare scenario.
