10 More Ways The Prequels Made Star Wars A Better Saga

9. The Story Of The Fetts

Star Wars 4 Lucas went a little bit off the beaten track when it came to Boba Fett€™s origins, opting to make him an altered clone of bounty hunter Jango Fett as opposed to the Madelorian warrior the expanded universe told us he was. We€™ll go into how cloning affected the original trilogy a little later but for now we€™ll focus on what Boba€™s limited screen time did in regards to fleshing out what we know about the mysterious masked bounty hunter. In Attack of the Clones we already see that Boba has a bad attitude and of course being a clone of Jango we€™re sort of getting a glimpse of what is behind the mask in the original trilogy as well. Boba Fett generally sits at the side lines of the action here and watches his father mingle with galactic affairs. Watching how Jango carries himself is very much replicated in Boba in the original trilogy but of course Boba has more fuel to be anti-Jedi. To begin with Obi-Wan Kenobi rolled up on the planet of Kamino and ruined a good thing for the Fett father and son. Then of course Boba knows that under every Clone Trooper helmet is the face of his father, which has to be enough to send you a little nuts and lastly Mace Windu outright beheaded Jango Fett right in front of little Boba so understandably Boba isn€™t happy with all things Jedi related. Jumping forward to Empire Strikes Back we see Boba Fett doing the sort of work his dad would be doing. Lucas did well to keep Anakin and Boba apart in Attack of the Clones, so there€™s no reason to think there€™s more going on beyond a recent history between Vader and Boba where some disintegrations obviously took place. However in Return of the Jedi, it could be argued that Boba was pretty keen to go one on one with a Jedi when he saw Luke swinging a lightsaber. We€™re not entirely sure of the Jabba and Boba relationship but Boba is a bounty hunter who works for cold hard cash rather than loyalty and there€™s no sense that Boba is paid to get involved with the scuffle taking place between Luke and Jabba€™s boys. I€™m more likely to argue that Boba wanted to take down a Jedi for his own pleasure and for what happened to his father and Luke waving a lightsaber about was too good a prospect to pass up. Of course Lucas also changed Boba€™s voice in Empire strikes back adding more weight to the fact Boba is a clone of Jango. This didn€™t go down well with some of the fans but given the fact this change to the original trilogy actually makes sense, it€™s one I can generally let slide.
