Popping up in the second season of the brilliant Clone Wars animated series, Star Wars introduced a rather horrifying entity into the galaxy far, far away in the form of a parasitic worm that took control of a person once they entered their body.

Makes that hallucinogenic lizard look like a charming space pet by comparison.

This was merely the tip of the absurd iceberg, though, as these Geonosian brain worms were also capable of possessing dead corpses and pretty much bringing the dead back to life as zombies.

Undead Geonosians creepily closing in on our heroes, and the unsettling visual of a number of clone troopers suddenly being invaded by these wriggly green terrors in their sleep, are just a few of the moments that freaked-out fans likely tried to erase from their memories in the wake of this sudden horrific detour.

Star Wars has always offered the odd scare and fright along the way, of course, with The Emperor's face-melting and Anakin's scorching on Mustafar both being rather gruesome in their own right.
