10 Most Annoying Christmas Movies Of All Time
1. Saving Christmas
Moralizing and Christmas movies have always gone hand in hand, from The Ghost of Christmas Past's rebuttal against greed to The Grinch's heart-swelling compassion. But there's a difference between showing a character learn a valuable lesson and hammering a Biblical lecture down the viewer's throat more forcefully than a Christmas Eve mass.
Kirk Cameron has reached the point where he's now more famous for being an outspoken --and mostly insane -- "guardian" of Christianity than he is for being a teen idol. That's really the only good thing surrounding this movie: That we all know to expect some anti-secular, crackpot theorizing beforehand.
There's nothing wrong with making a religious movie, or in trying to put the Christ back into Christmas, but there's something deeply unsettling about the false "facts" Cameron construes in this pseudo-educational narrative that completely go against science and history. He's not just ignoring reality, he's actively trying to create a new one to better support his religious views.
Oh, and for some reason, the movie also insinuates that consumerism is good for Christmas. Because if it weren't, who would buy all of Cameron's tasteful, faith-based merchandise from his online store?
