In a recent article I joked that nothing is off limits to Hollywood and that even seemingly untouchable movies like The Exorcist have revivals in the works. Well, since that went live a whole bunch of new information has been released about the project, including a confirmed release date for 2023.

In a $400m deal, three new Exorcist films have been ordered, with Halloween's David Gordon Green attached as the director of at least one instalment. Ellen Burstyn is reprising her role as Chris, the mother of the possessed Regan in the first movie, who is tracked down by a character played by Leslie Odom Jr. after his daughter is possessed in a similar fashion.

The Exorcist has been a tricky property to continue over the years, with botched prequels and disastrous sequels always failing to live up to the lofty original.

With this multi-movie commitment it's clear studio Blumhouse has faith in Gordon Green's vision though, and hopefully he can repeat Halloween's trick.
