While it's yet to be given an official release date, Return to Silent Hill is expected to hit cinemas before the year is out, with filming wrapping in February and a preview of the movie screening at this year's Cannes Film Festival; a preview that many praised for its depiction of franchise favourite villain Pyramid Head.

Of course, this will be a third live-action movie based around the beloved Silent Hill video game series, with Christophe Gans - helmer of 2006's first Silent Hill picture - back in the director's chair this time out. While that '06 film is somewhat of a cult favourite these days, the Gans-less Silent Hill: Revelation was an absolute stinker when it rolled around in 2012.

For Return to Silent Hill, the main sense of excitement here is due to the movie being an adaptation of the stunning Silent Hill 2 game. Here, The Woman in Black: Angel of Death's Jeremy Irvine plays the James Sunderland role, with Sunderland searching for his missing wife in the eerie, atmospheric, spooky town - all as he deals with his own dwindling sanity.
