Long before Peter Jackson had all but given up on practical effects and in the process ruined for many what could have been a wonderful movie version of Tolkien's The Hobbit, he was a master of low budget schlocky horror movies. Not least with the gleefully gory Bad Taste, which he shot with a bunch of friends on weekends over a period of several years. While the censors didn't have much of an issue with the content of the movie itself (it may be bloody, but it's silly fun rather than horrifically transgressive), they did kick up a fuss over the poster. The original poster featured an ugly alien sticking up his middle finger, but just in case this offended passengers on the London Underground, an extra finger was added in the UK. Which simply transformed it into another variation on the offensive hand gesture, begging the question, why did they bother?
