10 Most Bizarre DVD Easter Eggs

6. The Simpsons Movie

Memento Ending
Fox

The Simpsons has been on the air since December 1989, making the release of the film at least a decade later than it should have been.

Though the writers have changed and the show's best seasons will unlikely ever be matched, the film still holds up as a halfway decent episode, one smart enough to make callbacks early fans would appreciate (Albert Brooks' villain is a nice touch, given his long history with the show).

Not every joke lands, and its plot strangely resembles a novel Stephen King was in the process of writing, but it's an admirable attempt to recapture the atmosphere of the beloved show.

Whatever your feelings on the film, FOX did what they could to keep the DVD amusing. The series' seasons released up to that point had been given a loving treatment, with commentaries for each episode, and the film is no exception.

And right off the bat, like Tyler Durden, it's clear who's in charge of the DVD. Trying to select the "English Dolby Digital 5.1" option on the menu and Homer Simpson will interact with Tex, Pixar's old THX logo. Tex wakes Homer from a hammock, only to learn just how big a mistake he made. The beating is appropriately brutal, but still cartoony.

Kenny Hedges is carbon-based. So I suppose a simple top 5 in no order will do: Halloween, Crimes and Misdemeanors, L.A. Confidential, Billy Liar, Blow Out He has his own website - thefilmreal.com - and is always looking for new writers with differing views to broaden the discussion.
