9. Jennifer's Assault - I Spit On Your Grave
In I Spit On Your Grave, Jennifer is sexually violated by four men and left for dead, compelling her to to hunt them down to exact her revenge. Because rape is one of the most horrifying concepts possible, having it depicted in film is always met with controversy. This is why there was such outcry over films like Irreversible, Deliverance, and Evil Dead.
But even if you take these film into account, the gangrape scene in Meir Zarchi's I Spit On Your Grave is unbearable to watch. The assault on Jennifer isn't shown just for a few minutes. It goes on for almost half an hour, making it the longest rape scene in film history.
To say Meir Zarchi's film was met with controversy would be an understatement. The film crew were so appalled by this scene, two of them walked off set. Legendary film critic, Roger Ebert, found it so disgusting, he said I Spit On Your Grave was the worst film ever made. Even though the rape is built up so you know it's coming, nothing can prepare you for the brutality and sheer length of this horrific scene.
