10 Most Controversial Opening Movie Scenes

7. Sicario: Day Of The Soldado

Sicario 2
Lionsgate

The most recent entry on this list, Sicario: Day of the Soldado has already become notorious for having an opening scene so brutal and uncomfortable that it eclipses anything which occurred in the original flick. Spoilers, obviously, to follow.

The introductory scene is concerned with a group of suicide bombers, showing one of the terrorists detonating their explosives at the US-Mexican border before cutting to a store in Kansas City. Three men enter and two of the bombs go off, killing a bunch of bystanders, before the movie turns its attention to a mother, her young daughter, and the remaining terrorist standing between them and the exit.

They plead with him but it's no use, and he detonates his own explosive, brutally killing the two civilians. Both the original Sicario and this sequel tell dark tales without any real moral compass keeping things in check, but even fans of the franchise were taken back by this surprising opening.
