Murderers have populated the breadth and width of cinema for as long as its been a medium. They have shot, stabbed, strangled and suffocated their way into infamy, and all because we as a society apparently love to watch people die. Of course, the reason for this comes down to one of the fundamental necessities of storytelling conflict. The more conflict you have, the more the audience will invest in the struggle resulting in a great deal more satisfaction when the (hopefully) inevitable resolution occurs. Now, whats more conflicting than a helpless everyday guy unwittingly thrown into a deadly situation orchestrated by a mad man who considers himself a creative genius? Anyone? No? As weve already established moviegoers everywhere seem enthralled by watching murderous plots unfold upon the silver screen. But every once in a while were delightfully treated to something a little more cunningly complex when it comes to homicidal sprees.
