10 Most Deserving Best Picture Oscar Winners Ever

4. Ben-Hur - 1959

Ben Hur You're kidding right? This baby was nominated for EVERYTHING. Twelve, count 'em, twelve nominations and ELEVEN wins. That's some serious domination. I wasn't alive back then but that had to have been some boring television that night, right? Just for those of you keeping score, the eleven wins is a record. No other film has ever surpassed that number, it's been tied twice, first by Titanic and then by The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King but no other film has ever surpassed that total. A story of honor and revenge, this was the grandest spectacle the film community had yet seen. It's rarely been equaled in the decades since, let alone surpassed. Save for maybe Lawence of Arabia or Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings trilogy, none have quite stood it's equal. I'll put it to you this way: Name me another movie nominated that year. Go ahead and Google it and tell me you knew it ahead of time.

I'm married and live in New York with my wife and pets. I'm a writer and definitely not a comedian (just ask my wife). I've successfully linked my twitter, goodreads, facebook and google+ pages although the successful aspect of all that is up for debate. I also started my own blog on wordpress and have just finished my first novel, The Violent Winds. Now it's time to try and trick some unsuspecting fool into buying it.
