10 Most Disappointing Movies Of 2012

4. The Bourne Legacy

After it was announced that neither Matt Damon nor Paul Greengrass were going to be returning for the fourth Bourne film, The Bourne Legacy, pretty much any hope had evaporated that it would be worth pursuing, and this proved right with the lacklustre fourth film. Acting as something of a reboot, the film follows a completely different program, which has Jeremy Renner taking the Damon-esque role as a super-solder who soon enough finds himself being tracked down by the authorities and their various gun-totting cronies. He partners up with a scientist, ably played by Rachel Weisz, but the film can't escape the trappings of its loopy sci-fi premise - whereby his thought processes and strength is enhanced by a series of pills which, if not taken, will mean that his mental acuity and physical prowess diminish - nor does it make particularly good use of its talented supporting cast, most of all Edward Norton as a grey-haired stuffed shirt. Jeremy Renner is also a poor choice for the lead; he lacks charisma and conviction, and the film spends far too long poring over its, ahem, legacy, cutting to surveillance images of Jason Bourne, which only keeps reminding us how much more badass and entertaining a character he was. The final chase scene on a motorbike is pretty fun, but that's just about it.
