What It Promised
There's something inherently charming about the idea of two estranged old friends trying to break back into the stand-up comedy world as one of them faces a terminal illness. It's the kind of pathos-laden story that can lead to delights like Netflix's devastating, affirmative Paddleton.
So seeing the combination of Chevy Chase - who needs a career revival - and Richard Dreyfuss embarking on a road trip across America in search of a silver years dream looked like it had the potential to be pretty great.
But Really...
it never really understands what it's supposed to be and for most of the run-time you get the sense that it's working as hard against itself as Dreyfuss is to balance Chase's zombified performance with some of his trademark charm.
The tone is all over the place, it's never quite sweet or quite salty enough to stick either landing and there's nothing like the right amount of humour to convince you that these two are veteran comedy actors let alone characters who were embedded in the scene.
