10 Most Disorientating Horror Films

9. Excision

Rabbits Inland Empire
Anchor Bay Films

Teenage Pauline has dreams of being a surgeon. Her sister has Cystic Fibrosis, her family dynamic is less than stellar and, despite her apparent desire to go into medicine, she appears to have zero interest in school. Also, she’s a very weird kid.

The film is confusing and, at times, downright uncomfortable to watch. Aside from Pauline’s weird behaviour in the waking world, her dreams betray a much darker nature. She fantasises about bloody, bizarre sexual scenarios, ranging from having violent intercourse in a bed soaked with blood, through to having three strangers suckle on her six imaginary nipples like weird puppies.

Her behaviour escalates into the extreme, with those around her (including her concerned mother) having less and less of a clue of how to deal with her. By the end of the film, I can’t think of a single person who would know how to deal with her.

There’s some properly gross imagery in this flick, and it’s safe to say that none of it makes much sense.
