10 Most Disturbing British Movies Ever
4. The War Zone
Obviously Mr Orange learned how to handle a dark and disturbing story by working with Reservoir Dogs director and famous controversy magnet Quentin Tarantino, but there's no way even the Grindhouse helmer would dream of shooting anything as brutal as actor turned filmmaker Tim Roth's wildly vicious 1999 debut, the family drama The War Zone.
"Family" is doing some heavy lifting in that description, as this incredibly disturbing film is the antithesis of family viewing, but its story does concern a troubled English brood.
Following a deeply f***ed up family who makes the denizens of Dogtooth look like the Brady Bunch, The War Zone has poignant points to make about generational patterns of abuse. But incest, sexual violence, and some stuff too unpleasant to write down abound in the relentlessly grim film, which plays out like Ken Loach horror movie for its mercifully brief runtime.
