10 Most Embarrassing CGI Moments In Recent Movies
5. Alfie - Argylle
In case there aren't already enough reasons to harbour active disdain for Matthew Vaughn's dreadful spy caper Argylle, there's the fact that he inserted a nightmarish likeness of his own pet cat, Chip, into the film as protagonist Elly's (Bryce Dallas Howard) feline Alfie.
While Chip himself does appear in a few scenes, for anything even remotely complicated he's replaced with a digital double, which in the interest of animal safety absolutely makes sense. Plus, Hollywood's gotten really good at CGI animals in recent years.
Except, even with Argylle's eye-wateringly oversized $200 million budget, the cat ends up looking no better than something out of, say, the Cats and Dogs movies from decades ago.
It doesn't help that Vaughn features the cat in a bevy of absurd scenarios throughout, many of which require close-ups of the feline's unpersuasive CGI face. And worse still, these "money shots" were included extensively in the film's tiresome marketing campaign, and likely actively dissuaded many from watching the full movie.
