10 Most Frightening Moments In Film History

6. Psycho - Overhead Stabbing Of Arbogast

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bieIiX5KLQ Psycho is a film that has what is arguably the most famous scene in all of horror history and also one of the most iconic moments of any film. That is the shower scene but there is another scene that I have always felt is more frightening. When the detective, Arbogast, is very close to finding out the truth of Norman's identity he makes his way into the Bates house but it seems no one is in there. This false sense of security lets the audience breathe for a little bit because it is assumed that Arbogast is alone in the house. Then, out of nowhere, Bernard Herrmann's famous musical cue begins and Arbogast is murdered. This is just as shocking as anything Hitchcock has ever done because of how subtle the lead up to the scare is. The overhead nature of the shot really adds to how frightening it is because the killer's identity is kept a mystery which puts the audience on the edge of their seat for the rest of Psycho.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
