4. Top Gun Beach Volleyball
Deja vu! Its another beach volleyball scene which serves almost no plot function, but allows the film to show its stars bouncing around in the sunshine whilst not wearing very much! Why, its almost as if that was the very reason beach volleyball was invented in the first place. Of course, this sequence in Tony Scotts airborne hit set out to the unforgettable tones of Kenny Loggins Playing With The Boys stands proud as a classic example of a scene which is totally and utterly frivolous, and yet its pretty much impossible to imagine the film without it. And who hasnt at least once done that same oh-so macho variation on a high five that Maverick and Goose pull off so memorably here?
