10 Most Horrifying Changes Of Animated Characters To Live-Action

6. Genie (Aladdin)

While we've yet to see the fully finished product which will be hitting theaters in May, things are not looking good for Will Smith's Genie.

As established, Robin Williams is a beloved icon for a reason. His voice performance as Genie in the original film was the perfect conduit for his manic and unique brand of humor. Infamously, even the Disney animators on Aladdin had a hard time keeping up with his nonstop pace.

So anyone would have a hard time stepping into those shoes, but an incredibly poorly composited Will Smith CGI hybrid is not the best start. Director Guy Ritchie said in previous interviews about the design that;

"I wanted a muscular 1970s dad. He was big enough to feel like a force — not so muscular that he looked like he was counting his calories, but formidable enough to look like you knew when he was in the room."

And yeah, I suppose that's true. But to what end? It's not like the original animated version had these strong straight lines to its visual presence. In fact, its design featured a looser more transformative visual design at pretty much every turn.

All of this to say, those shots of Will as the full-blown blue Genie kind of undermine everything that was so great about the original Genie from a visual standpoint and understandable have fans very worried.
