10 Most Iconic Robots In Film History

9. Robby (Forbidden Planet)

robby forbidden planet Despite how cheesy it looks, the 1956 SF film Forbidden Planet is shockingly good. Not only that, it proved to be the first in many areas. It was the first science fiction movie to not be set on or around Earth in any way. It was the first to feature humans traveling vast distances in space (in fact, Gene Roddenberry admitted that this film paved the way for Star Trek). But its most notable advancement was featuring a robot that - for the first time - got to have a distinctive personality. Even Maria, who charaded as a human, still was controlled by Rotwang. But Robby was an independent, fully functioning robot. He was so popular he went on to have nearly as many film and TV appearances as his co-star Leslie Nielsen. Some of his selected appearances: The Twilight Zone, Columbo, The Monkees, Gremlins, and Looney Tunes: Back In Action.
