Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a reboot no one really knew they wanted, and one that kicked off one of the better trilogies in recent memory. While Rise is arguably the weakest of the three, it is host to one of its most outstanding scenes.

Determined to escape the primate shelter with its other inhabitants, the newly appointed alpha and silent protagonist, Caesar, begins to devise a plan. Making a stand against the malicious guard, Caesar is beaten and shocked as he refuses to return to his cage. As the guard takes another swing, Caesar firmly catches his arm. Fearfully warning the damn dirty ape, Caesar stands mighty and bellows out “No!”

Not only was this the first word that the intelligent ape had spoken, but it was his first truly rebellious move against the antagonistic humans. The two guards and even the apes stand and awe, and most likely the audience as well as this powerful scene laid the foundation for the ape uprising with a single world.
