10 Most Important And Influential Summer Blockbusters Of All-Time

9. The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight is often regarded as perhaps the finest comic book movie ever made, but the influence of Christopher Nolan's sequel stretched far beyond the superhero genre, and the number of filmmakers that named it as a direct inspiration is nothing short of staggering.

Treating the material with a sense of seriousness and realism rarely found in tales of spandex-suited heroes, the idea of making a straightforward crime thriller that just happened to take place in a world where Batman exists was almost genius in the sheer simplicity of it.

Both Ryan Coogler and Sam Mendes, directors of billion dollar blockbusters in their own right, were quick to point out how much inspiration Black Panther and Skyfall took from The Dark Knight, and it continues to have arguably the longest-lasting legacy of any comic book adaptation in history.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
