10 Most Influential Directors Of All Time

5. Akira Kurosawa

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2Oe3DtVa0w Seven Samurai, Ran and Kagemusha are the films that really show the wide impact that Akira Kurosawa made on the world of cinema. The war movie wouldn't be able to exist without the influence of Kurosawa's samurai archetype and his warrior's code of honor. Movies like The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Braveheart and Saving Private Ryan all feature battle scenes that are heavily reminiscent of the genre defining ones that Kurosawa directed years prior. Epic films like The Ten Commandments and Ben Hur also feature many moments that illustrate how noticeable and far reaching Kurosawa's characters and directorial style has become.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
