10 Most Insane Movie Leaks Ever

And so we bookend our list with Star Wars. As with Deadpool and Hateful Eight, this is not a film leak per se, but rather some leaks that were so insane they will prove to have lasting effect on people’s perceptions of this film, and the future of the Star Wars franchise still to come.

In October of 2019, some 6 weeks before The Rise of Skywalker’s release date, two images from the film’s finale leaked onto Reddit. Disney filed copyright claims to have the images taken down, but by that point they had already been copied and spread throughout the internet. Furthermore, fans concluded that Disney’s swift response gave credence to the images in fact being real.

If that wasn’t already bad enough for Disney, thenin January of 2020, after the film’s lackluster reception (despite the fact that it did make a billion dollars), original director Colin Trevorrow and writing partner Derek Connolly’s screenplay for Episode IX (which they called Duel of Fates) was leaked online.

What’s unique about this leak is that it happened afterthe film’s release and it answered so many fans’ questions about just what all did JJ Abrams and his writing partner, Chris Terrio, to do change TROS. The script featured bigger roles for Finn and Rose, there was much, much more for Luke Skywalker to do, completely different goals for the Resistance as well as the First Order, and Rey and Kylo Ren are given much different endings.

Many who have reviewed the Duel of Fates script have expressed that it continued in the trajectory set up by Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi much better than TROS did. This leak, which surely has angered the powers-that-be, has given Star Wars fans a view into a film that never was, a film that felt like a better ending to the Skywalker Saga.
