10 Most Insane Things That Ever Happened At Comic-Con
A veteran of the San Diego Convention Centre thanks to appearances on the annual Doctor Who panel, Karen Gillan found herself promoted to the organised chaos of the Marvel table at 2013's Comic-Con when she booked a role in Guardians Of The Galaxy.
And, as if all the announcements about that film hadn't prompted enough excitable screaming, Gillan had her own surprise. She played Nebula in the finished film, an adopted daughter of bad guy Thanos and sorta-sister to Zoe Saldana's Gamora. As such, she had to look like a weird alien person as well. In Gillan's case, that meant having no hair and being painted purple.
Rather than trying to fit her long ginger Amy Pond locks beneath a bald cap, she opted to go full method. When the Guardians panel happened in 2013, she'd already shaved her hair off. But nobody knew until Gillan revealed that the red hair she had walked on stage rocking was actually a wig, pulling it off bashfully to unveil the smooth chrome dome underneath. Doctor Who fans and Marvel obsessives alike absolutely lost their sh*t.
