10 Most Insane Things That Ever Happened At Comic-Con

Film studios now annual shepherd their big stars to Comic-Con to promote their upcoming big-budget movies to a crowd that will, presumably, be excited about whatever they trot out. It's a good way to build excitement and positive word-of-mouth. However, it's only in the past few years that San Diego has become (for one weekend at least) the place to hype up your Hollywood blockbuster.

Back in the day, things were much more comic-centric, although there was still the odd appearance by a bona fide movie star. Prior to the 1989 Batman film, Tim Burton and Michael Keaton were attendance at that year's convention, with the hope that they'd be able to convert the comic book fans who were already critical of comedic actor Keaton's casting as Bruce Wayne. As it happens, Warner Bros already has an ace up their sleeve guaranteed to get the fans on side.

They brought along Bob Kane, co-creator of The Dark Knight. Kane told the crowds why he thought Keaton was perfect, whilst giving Burton his blessing on the project. It was a surprise, unadvertised appearance that no doubt helped the 1989 Batman become a hit.
