10 Most Insane Things That Ever Happened At Comic-Con

When Marvel settled down for their big Avengers panel at San Diego Comic-Con in 2010, fans already had some idea of what to expect. There had already been two Iron Man films, as well as the first Captain America and Thor films, at that point, so, they'd introduced to the main Avengers cast of Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr, Chris Hemsworth, and Scarlett Johansson. Jeremy Renner had had his brief Hawkeye cameo in Thor, too, and both Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson had been introduced.

It was assumed they were all part of the main cast. What nobody knew was is if Bruce Banner - a key Avenger - would appear. Edward Norton had, after all, already departed the MCU after his starring role in the Incredible Hulk film. And then, out of nowhere, enter Mark Ruffalo.

Once the known cast was assembled, Robert Downey, Jr. introduced Ruffalo as the new actor who would be filling Bruce Banner's purple trousers; not through a press release or conference, in front of fans. Fans who duly went apesh*t. It later transpired that the contract for the new Hulk was only signed a scant few hours before the panel, making the whole thing all the more awesome.
