10 Most Intense War Movies Ever Made
1. Hacksaw Ridge
As a Seventh-day Adventist, Desmond Doss immediately clashed with the idea of war as he refused to carry a firearm.
Throughout training, he only ever had becoming a field medic in mind due to his admiration for his wife and his troubled past.
Following a military trial that would decide whether he would be allowed to be deployed or sent to prison, Doss joined up with his fellow new recruits as they are deployed to Okinawa.
As they ascend onto Hacksaw Ridge they are riddled with gunfire from fixed LMG positions and mortar strikes.
The American army stays put on the ridge overnight, but after a massive counter-attack from the Japanese at sunrise, they are pushed back to the bottom of the ridge.
Desmond Doss, however, remains on the ridge searching for his injured countrymen to save them. Risking his life over and over, Doss trawls through the bloody battlefield alone with the Japanese soldiers scouring the battlefield and executing survivors.
Despite this, the medic also saves some Japanese soldiers, lowering any injured man he finds down to the 77th Infantry for medical attention.
Typically in Hollywood, it is the man you singlehandedly wipes out dozens upon dozens of enemies. Hacksaw Ridge does an incredible job of making a hero out of someone who saves their enemy.
