10 Most Intense Western Duels Ever
2. Shane (1953)
There's something about a salloon that perfectly represents a western shootout. In movies like The Three Amigos, the saloon served as the setting of some of the most brutal (and hilarious) gunfights. In other movies, like Shane, it served as the only place a phrase like, "I've heard that you're a low-down Yankee liar" could only lead to two men dead on the floor.
Not only does Shane succeed in pulling off the quick-draw that kills the bad guys, he also avoids getting hit thanks to a little boy's warning and pulls on the man overhead.
Shane succeeded in killing three men in this gunfight without breaking a sweat, but the way that it's handled on screen makes it one of those classic shootouts all other Western films found a way to emulate years later.
The final scene in Unforgiven is a clear homage to certain elements of this gunfight, but it's hardly the only movie to take its cue from the saloon shootout in Shane.
