10 Most Irritatingly Improbable Sports Movies

1. The Replacements

D2 The Mighty Ducks
Warner Bros.

The entire world has lived through the listlessness of at least one major sport strike. And sure, it sucks. But there are several million things that the team ownership does in The Replacements to combat the strike that would never ever happen.

First of all, there would never be a major strike shutting down the entire league with four games left of the season. Negotiations happen in the off season for that very reason, and the only in-season strike that has ever happened in the modern era of professional football only affected the very beginning of the season, cancelling one week of games and playing for three weeks with players who were cut during training camp and ones who crossed the picket line.

And even if a comet flew by and everyone started acting crazy and there was a full strike, the owners would never hire the ragtag group of misfits they pull together in this film.

This movie has a former college quarterback with a serious choking problem, a Welsh footballer/pub owner, a felon who is released early from his prison sentence so that he can play, a sumo wrestler, and a stockboy who can run really fast.
