2. The Wizard of Oz
The Wizard of Oz is the defining cinematic experience when it comes to creating a sense of whimsy and magic. The film is endlessly quotable, features some of the greatest characters ever put on screen and is easily one of the most iconic movies ever made. Everyone has their own favorite part which is a testament to how enduring its legacy still remains to this day. Simply put, when The Wizard of Oz came out, no one had ever seen anything even remotely similar. It features one of the most magical worlds ever committed to film, but the richness of the characters is its greatest strength. The friendship between Dorothy, the scarecrow, the lion and the tin man is incredibly fun to watch while also heartwarming at the same time. The Wicked Witch of the West is responsible for many a nightmare by younger viewers, and the wizard himself is captivating even when he turns out to be a fraud. The lure of Oz itself is more captivating than any amount of CGI, by featuring a world that was way ahead of its time when it came out and still amazes audiences young and old.
