SPECTRE last appeared in 1971's Diamonds Are Forever, but the group from Fleming's novels have remained out of the franchise's producers reach since then due to complicated rights issues. As a result, it's been widely theorised that Quantum (which wasn't seen in Skyfall, but played a key role in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace) is SPECTRE. Pat yourself on the back if you were one of the people who thought that, because rumour has it that that is indeed the case. Quantum may have just been a codename or offshoot of SPECTRE, and it sounds like this movie is going to tie everything together. The question remains; will Spectre end this iteration of the franchise of just open the door to new stories? If this movie follows Fleming's novels and previous instalments in the franchise, chances are that it will be the latter regardless of any changes behind and in front of the camera.
